Study visist hosted by BfArM

From 21 to 23 October 2025, the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) hosted a study visited under the CHESSMEN Joint Action.

Over three days, participants explored how Germany manages medicine shortages, including discussions on the national framework, digital systems, early warning tools, and communication strategies.

The visit brought together representatives from Ireland, Croatia, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Slovenia, and included presentations, real-time demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and case discussions. The last day counted with the presence of a representative of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI).

The open and collaborative approach fostered insightful discussions on countries best experiences and common challenges observed, thus highlighting the importance of strengthening the coordination between National Competent Authorities and optimizing existing initiatives.
